parked pages

"When a site goes to a parked domain page, should that be reported as a "dead link"?"

Why would you care about wasting your valuable time to report a so-called dead link? You get credit for clicking and move on! Eventually it will go so far down, it won't get clicked on again.

It helps keep the site clean and up to date. It takes hardly any time and is good for the LR community.

It is also worth reporting incorrect listings.

Very important to put back into LR rather than just try to benefit from it.

Thanks Richard. That is exactly why I care about it.

it has got to the point that there are so many of these sites here now that it makes it hard to do reviews not only a waste of time. i think they should be reported and maybe they will take them off one day. sure it gets counted as a site you visit, but what a pain.

If a site is parked, the owner should remove it from LR. If the site goes active again, the owner can put it back. It serves no purpose for the owner to leave it(no good reviews, nothing for visitors to remember positively). Parked sites on LR actually detract from the owner's reputation. Just my thoughts. Best of luck to all. Lenore, goodnreadytogo

Hi Paula,

Yes, you should always report dead sites, parked sites, etc. That is the only Mike (Admin) will know which sites to look at to determine if they are really dead or not. He will then decide if they need to be removed from LR or just left alone. Mary :-)

That's a good question. I used to see these domains here a lot but not lately. I have some parked domains that are making me money but not linked to from LR.

Many people own and keep parked pages. They are very useful for ads and funneling traffic. Very cheap to maintain. Parked pages are many times left that way on purpose.

Many people own parked pages and keep them parked. They serve a purpose and google will even allow you to put adsense on them.

I get bored looking at the same sites over and over again so usually I will start out on page one and go as far as I need to go to make my rank. The next day I will come back and start at the page I left out on. I know that I will never see some sites because there rank moves around, but most of the time its the same sites over and over again.

Because I do this, by the time I get past page 10 I start picking up dead links, about 1 out of every 5 are dead, sometimes its really hard to find sites to review because of this. So yes I also report them as dead links because it annoys me. Anyone who lets those just go is making it bad for everyone. Most of these people who just let them go are lazy and I would also say are the ones who don't give quality reviews or spam everyone.

I report dead links too as it's a waste of time for people going through the links to come up against LOADS of dead links. I haven't really done that with parked domains, but I agree that it would make sense to report parked domains too as they're not leading anywhere.

Why would you waste your time reporting dead links? As stated above, servers go down quite often, your ISP burps, etc. Parked pages have a purpose, and, you still get credit for visiting the site. Why would you waste your time reporting someone else's problem?????? I don't get how some of you have so much time to use LR. LR should be a wink of what you should be doing for website promotion.

I never report a dead link...I do however email the sites owner with the problem. Over the past year I have had return emails from each and every one of them thanking me that they did not know the loading had problems. I agree we must all be responsible as a community and either report it or contact the owner direct. LR is a wonderful opportunity for all of us.
