Hmmmm, interesting question and one that I'd like answered. Mike, I've seen the guestbook on many sites that I have visited and reviewed on LR. In a year+ I have yet to sign one. I'm never sure what I'm getting into by signing one. If you have one, maybe there needs to be an explanation of what happens to the information that will put the guest at ease. Mary

I've always looked to a guest book as being the same as a place to post comments. When one signs a guest book for a deceased it is usually ...short...sweet...and to the point. In other words...a place to leave a productive comment. Just my thoughts & sharing.

A guest book on a website is a simple form where people can type in their name and comments.Mike, if the guest book form you are thinking of using gets you the person's email address, then you have yourself a mailing list - very handy for people who are selling stuff.

We have a Guest Book on our Site , our members have left Comments to tell people what they think of our Site. We have also had Guests leave their Opinion's of our Site , but you have to be aware a Guest Book is another place people can Spam so you do have to be careful.

I've had a site that held a guestbook before and I enjoyed it! I had visitors sign the book and they would leave remarks and a link to their site which others that signed the book would sometimes take interest in. I think it's a good idea to have one at least with it you can tell whose really paying attention to your site

A guest book use to be a place where visitors can leave a comment, and even meet other people. Most website don't use them anymore because as other said, spam and worst, email harvesters. :(

there are guest books that will send email but the ones i've seen send it back to a site like widgetbox - you have to go to their site to view the email - Health, Happiness, Peace, and Positive Perspective - IMHO >> In My Humble Opinion - The MUSEUM, Zazzle

Hi Greg, I agree with you. I never sign them and no one has signed mine in years. Best of success. Lenore, goodnreadytogo

On my site, I have a place where potential customers can sign up with their personal information if they want, but I've only had a few do it in about 4 months. I don't think I would care for comments as some would not be very nice, but would be spamming. I don't think I would like it!

It all depends on what you are looking for, if you are looking just to get your visitors to interact then fine. I would think that the ultimate is to keep people returning to your site and loyal, this needs more than just a comment. Bloggs, forums, and bulletin boards go more down the path to encouraging revisits.

The reason why most of you have not heard of guestbooks, is because the have gone the way of betamax, leaded gas, cassette tapes, etc. People use blogs now. Start a blog and you'll get plenty of comments to edit or delete. Skip the guestbook. Unless you are a wedding coordinator.
