When should forums be added to a site?

"How many visits/day or visits/month should I have before I put up forums? I added forums before, but removed them because the only posters were spam."

That is at your discretion. However, you may want to make sure that your website is receiving traffic as visitors will see an empty forum if that is not the case.

Do you have any numbers as a minimum? Such as 500 visits/day or 10K visits/month.

I think the most important aspect of the decision is: how active are your members? Do you get many comments on your site/blog? If not, your forum will probably be empty too.

I think also you need to decide what you want your Forum to do and the Aim of your Forum. A Forum can be useful for posting Information about your Site, if you are worried about Spammers you can lock the Forum for members only.

i honestly think adding a forum is a great way to get repeat visitors but the amount of visitors before adding one should be dependent on the quality visitors who use your sevices or share your ideas

Thanks for the feedback! I'll take all the points into consideration on my decision to post a new forum.

I was also wondering when to add my forum and how I could get people to it.

Forums require a lot of work, I am told it's a bit like spinning plates, you have to keep them going all the time or people quickly lose interest.
