PayPal - The Other Credit Card Processing People
"Using PayPal instead of a bank to take credit card payment could be causing people to navigate away from the shopping cart. What is the best way to keep a customer from looking down at PayPal?????" |

Well, one of the problems with paypal from the merchant perspective is the cost per transaction. Paypal does take quite a bit from that compared to some other sites. So, essentially the cost has to be passed on to someone, the buyer, with higher cost items. Maybe people fear also that paypal is not as secure as a site taking credit cards. I guess you have to make it clear that it is a secured transaction or you give them the option of paying by both credit card and paypal and see what directions more people choose.

I use PayPal but recently applied for a real merchant account because my customers were having a hard time finalizing their payment transactions via PayPal. A few had to call me for assistance to finalize their transaction. It is quite annoying and costly, but it’s perfect for the startup company.

I use PayPal because it's secure and integrated into the online venues I sell on. I agree, stressing the security of PayPal is probably the best way to help the customer feel better about using PayPal. Having said that, if it's possible to offer multiple payment options, it's nice to give your customers a choice.

Transferring money via PayPal is safe. HOWEVER, your password is most likely not. I have had mine changed, without my permission (hacked) about 3 times. PayPal is great about fixing the problem, and even alerting you to the change in most instances, but I make sure not to keep a large amount in PayPal. The last time my password was hacked, the thief went into my bank account, which I have linked to my PayPal for verification. Change your password every 30 days. Use an anagram instead of words and numbers. :-) |
