Advertising on Your Vehicle

"Have any of you ever advertised your website on your vehicle? If so, do you have a feel for how it worked? I've been thinking of having a decal made for my vehicle. Thoughts???"

My district manager put decals on her windows, magnets on the doors and on the back of her van. She does great business. If you have the money to invest in it try to add a little at a time.

Vehicle advertising is a form of "word-of-mouth" advertising which is probably more powerful than any other form of advertising in the world.

I just asked the local car dealership how their magnetic signs were holding up and if thety had any problems. The one important thing to keep doing with these signs is to keep the magnetic side clean. Not keeping the magnetic side clean can cause the dirt to scratch the vehicle's paint. You can go to any car dealership and see car doors that show heavy scratching. Keeping clean keeps this to a minimum.

The owner stated he was surprised at how many people called and remarked that the referral came from their pickup trucks signs.

Thanks Colin, Angela, and William. I appreciate your input. I think I'm going to check into getting something made for my vehicle. If it isn't too expensive, it's probably worth a try.

William, my 4-runner is a 1994, so I don't worry too much about scratching anymore...LOL!! I will do my best to keep it clean, but sure won't lose any sleep if it does get a few more scratches!!

Mary,

Keeping the magnetic side clean also helps to keep the sign on your vehicle. Would hate to see you spend money then have it blow off going down the road.

Maybe there is an LR member who makes these signs.

William,

LOL.....don't worry, I wouldn't just put it on and then forget about it. I'll keep it clean!! I'm just not going to fuss every other hour like I would with a brand new vehicle!!

There is a sign shop two blocks from my house that makes them.

I have a 1994 Toyota 4-Runner. Interesting in hearing from you!

it depends on what kind of business you have and where you are. if it's where you will be seen by lots of traffic it may pay off after a while, but it's like everything else, just takes time. the door magnets are not to high in price so it would most likely be a good dollar spent.

Hi Valerie and Sam,

My vehicle is in a very busy area so will be seen by hundreds of people every day. It is my understanding that the sign company close to me is very reasonable. Yes, cost is a factor, so it has to be affordable!!

I don't have a flyer but do give out lots and lots of business cards. Having a flyer/brochure would be excellent...hadn't thought of that!! Great idea!!

Thanks to you both.

Mary

hi mary,

i have got door magnets and window decals from the company i get business cards from and was not bad in price. if you live in a high traffic area you might want to check into this. i have not used mine as yet but thinking i might go ahead and give it a shot. more people see your car on the road and parking lots than the amount that will pick up a business card.

Hi Valerie,

Thank you so much for your ideas. I hope you will try your decals...I'd be very interested in how they are working for you so feel free to email me!! Oh yes, did you read William's post about scratches?? If not, give it a read...good advice for keeping scratches to a minimum!!

I want to make the decal as simple as possible, so that it can be easily remembered, so I have to give that some thought. I find that unless I'm at a show, I don't give out that many business cards. I do get in conversations out in public where I end up getting out a card, but that isn't very regular. We'll see how it all goes!!

Mary :-)

Hi Tabitha,

I don't know about companies in your area. You could always google for car decals in FL, or check your yellow pages and let your fingers do the walking.

I'm not going to do a decal that goes in a window for two reasons. 1) I don't want anything blocking my view of pedestrians or traffic, 2) I don't think it would be big enough to make an impact.

Because I drive an older model Toyota 4-Runner, I want those decals that are removable, but cling to the back doors and the rear door. They can be larger so they are easily readible.

If you can't do one of those, how about a decal that goes on the rear bumper?? I've seen some that are readible and do make a good impact.

Let us know what you find out.....

Mary :-)

Mary, I would think a magnetic door sign would do the trick. I have been thinking of that too.

They would stay on and wouldn't hurt your car.

I live in a small town, but there is tons of traffic. (College town.)

I would think that would be a inexpensive way to advertise.

We also have a local message board on the net. (rollanet.org) It is a fun site to find all kinds of stuff I see business ads on there all the time. See if your area has one.

I have thought of Craigs list also. You could put some thing on there to see how it works.

I need to take my own advice. We all need more traffic.

Hi Arlene,

I totally agree. I'm looking into larger magnetic decals for the back tailgate of my 4-Runner and the side doors.

Bumper stickers are just too small to get read (except stopped at a traffic light/stop sign).

Window stickers don't appeal to me because they might block my view of pedestrians or traffic.

I use car decals, post cards, and business cards t-shirts, magnetic calendars, and hats. They all seem to work to get the word out. Go to wistaprint.com. It is very affordable, and they usually have some great deals and discounts going on. You can also get stationary that matches everything.

Good thread! Vehicle advertising can work and I've used it myself in the past. Wasn't for a website but for a service, but if the website has a snappy name, people may visit when they've seen it on your vehicle. Problem with etsy etc. is the long website name. Get your own domain name if that's possible with etsy.

Actually advertising by means of Magnetic signs, works well only if its relevant to the item its fixed onto. Example advertising a High Performance Car workshop on a Performance car such as a Mustang/Stingray/or a Camaro turns out some outstanding results, but advertising a Coffee shop on the side of a Performance car will possibly have a negative result to your Business, as their are possibly potential customers that Hate Performance cars. " Just be very careful what vehicle you place your advertising on. " Alway's Look outside the Square "

I'm in Australia, anyone in USA want to advertise my business on your vehicle in exchange for yours? Go to my website, then email me at the aussiefoodshop email. I'll get back to you!

Maybe we all should consider bumper stickers then exchange them - like a bumper sticker exchange.

I haven't advertised on my vehicle. I think it would be read when the car is stationary and I don't think it would be helpful on a bumper but on a side of the car.

All you have to do is put some of your great looking artwork into a magnetic sign and you can place it on side doors, rear doors or even use it as a fixed sign for shows.

Part of the trick with using a magnetic sign on a car is watch where your parking. Always park on a end space so it's in view.

LOL....well, I have a Toyota 4-Runner. So advertising my site with magnetic signs will be easy and not out of place!!
