Holiday Shopping Reports Dismal for the Year
"There was a big story on the news yesterday that said all reports show that the Holiday spending by consumers will be even more dismal this year than last. With that, what will you do differently, if anything, to promote your business?" |

Hi Marie, Yeah, I saw that as well. There is really a lot of competition out there, so I've been trying to come up with something out of the norm for advertising (at least, out of the norm for me!!). Can't wait to see some other responses!! Mary :-)

And then to top that off - the news reported yesterday that Michigan is again/yet/still holding the highest unemployment rate in the nation. Unemployment here is over 15%. Definitely time for some huge creativity. I can hardly wait to hear some other ideas also.

Excellent question Marie ! About the best I can do for this years holiday shoppers is put one of my product items up as a 50% discount sale( for the highest price item). I have already lowered prices on all my items - less than my competitors and it has helped with sales.

I was speaking with my accountant the other day and he mentioned that his customers that own fast food restaurants are really benefiting from the 'Value Menu'. He says that people are more apt to buy when they think they are getting a 'value'. Maybe we should be changing our verbage from 'sale' to 'value'.

Marie, I think you may have stumbled onto something really good. Going to have to do some creative thinking and add that to my site. Who knows might just work !!!Last years Christmas sales were very dismal. I did very well in sales for the months before December 2008, but as soon as December hit, sales dropped drastically. Was a complete shock, since December 2007 was good. I am hoping that December 2009 will not be a repeat of 2008.

Well, if you don't market a product type industry, I wonder how that would affect you? I only market services. So, I guess from the shopping perspective that would not affect me. However, people have to see a value in anything you promote, so you have to somehow convey the value and why they need that service over anything else.

times are challenging but will stick to time tested method which has seen me over many a business hump " your income is determined by the size of the problem that you solve" and the other reason someone buys is when your product or service makes a difference in their lives. these two certainly keep me focused

Just a word of encouragement. My sales this month at my zazzle shop have been very good compared to last months and customers are already purchasing holiday apparel and gifts, etc. I must say I feel quite blessed as my sales there have been very good for the month of October, and I'm hoping they'll continue to go well. Good luck to everyone!

| Quoted from: kozziebear on 2009-10-27 10:11:42 Just heard on the news this morning they are projecting holiday sales to be down 15% from last year. God help us all. |
Oh, boy, that is all we need. Holiday sales were really bad last year on the net, now another 15% down, does that mean zero sales ? lol !I was doing really good with sales in July, August and September, October started decreasing slightly and of course it has me worried with the October sales decrease that it is a sign from the economic gods that Nov and Dec sales are going to sux.
