"I am wondering how many keywords you should add to your site and should you place them on each page or just the index page?"

there is so so much info... dedicate time to research and learn about keyword strategy ... things have changed and are always changing. always keep in mind when using your keywords, make sure they come across naturally on the page, as if you were having a conversation with someone.

Go to someones webpage and click on the view tab at the top of your browser than click source and you will get an idea of what they are using for keywords for their metatags then check out their meta tag description,,,,Kind of interesting

I would try this on a site with good page ranking

Hi <meta keywords> are still used by several major search engines so they are still very important.

One simple thing you can do is keyword density optimization, a search bot sees the comma "," as the space. "so,you, can, squish,in,an,extra, keyword,or,two"

For length it varies, MSN take 1024 characters and hotbot only 75. so use the ones that you want to get picked up right at the start.

I see this in about 2% of all source code, even some of the leading seo firms don't do density optimize for it, there loss.

make all of your keywords in lowercase. 80% of search is performed in lowercase. and some search engines are case sensitive. if you want to get 99% of search then repeat your "most important" keyword 3 times, "keyword,Keyword,KEYWORD"

i do suggest spacing them out over the length of your tag so it get a spam penalty. Your <title> every word Capitalised.

Your main keyword for each page should also be in your title and again in your first paragraph and again in the page or better still a hyperlink title < href="httpwhatever.com/">My Most Important keyword</a> for max impact.

I also suggest having the keyword or Keyphrase about 4 times in every 300 words in page content.

your after keyword prominence, kw frequency and lexical density.

Hope that helps,,

Phillip

Usually only three for the index page.

You can add several but you'll never be able to optimize for that many unless you are superman.

It's not really a matter of how many words but characters. I think the max is around 200 but don't quote me on that. And yes, you should have keywords on every page of your site
