"I post to a blog almost daily promoting all kinds of stuff.. but should i use bum marketing strategies to find keywords with low competition or just get thrown into the mix with the huge keyword searches?"

I tend to use no more than five short straight to the point keywords. Seems to work for us

i do a mix of both, as others are saying... the hard part is making it look "natural". plus don't want to get in trouble with keyword stuffing.

In affiliate marketing we use long keywords. You will get more traffic and your site will rank higher. When searching for long keywords try to use long keywords with at least 1000 views but not more than 100,000 views. I don't use googles adword's planner either for keywords. Try one of the other sites for keywords like SEOBook.com.

Short keywords are always harder to obtain 1st page ranking. We find that phrases are sometimes better to obtain better ranking from search engines like Google, Bing, or Yahoo.

Listen to Sherwood, because what they shared is good information. Thank you Sherwood for helping me learn something new and helpful today. I need to use more keyword phrases on my website. I usually use short one or two word keywords. I will try out your keyword tip on the next post that I publish on my blog.

I'm using short keywords for my products but I can't talk on the results. Because I'm a new internet seller.

On this forum I read some different views and now I'm a little confused. Maybe using both types is more relevant.

long are better for more traffic - short for more sales

How can you discern that statement to be true? You need the traffic in order to get the sales.

Short keywords are usually too general to get a new site noticed unless the keyword is very unique to their site and a lot of people happen to be searching for it.

It is easier to build unique long keywords (phrases) than it is to use short ones.

If you have a site about making money and you use the keyword "making money", you compete with way too many sites to get to the top page. But if you have a site that is unique in the money making field and you use long keywords that are specific to your content and your content is new and unique to the field - you will rank at the top.

I have found some of the lower searched key words work best. You can do combos of key words too.
