I'm currently on Etsy. I've had some sales, and they come in spurts. I visit the forums, use facebook, and use the free sites to advertise. The showcase I've never used so not sure if they are worth it. Lots of luck and sales!

I haven't done a showcase. I Blog, list on weekends, renew on weekends or weekdays, in the evening, use linkreferral and entrecard for my blog. I ahve a facebook, too. Sales have been very slow. It's frustrating that the economy has everyone scared.

I personally think that the best marketing you can do is word of mouth. Your mouth. Talk to everybody you know, and email everyone you know to ask if they'll personally recommend you to their friends. Do home shows. Craft fairs. set up booths wherever they'll let you. Talk to boutiques about consignment or wholesale. set up you own show at a highly visible house for sale and work with the broker in tandem with an open house.

The sales are out there, but they're happening to those who go out and get them.

Very interesting thought about home shows. I never would have thought of that idea. Sounds like a good, idea, thank you. I agree that word of mouth is a great way to "get known". I have left a couple business cards on bulletin boards at our local gym, laundry mats, and other business. I have thought about placing flyers on cars in the local mall parking lot, not sure if this would be ok or work.

We do alot of online marketing at all of the free sites. It drives traffic to our Etsy store.

It's been quite a while since I first posted this question in the forums here..and Now 3,690 sales later..I can say showcases are NOT worth the money, nor is the advertising they are trying to start now. Facebook and Twitter have been my biggest advertisers, make friends with people! It's getting harder on Etsy to keep sales at a steady pace, with all of the changes they have made within the last year, that being said, it is possible! List new items OFTEN! That has been the only thing that I have noticed increases sales significantly. Good luck to everyone!

I haven't tried a showcase, but have heard mixed reviews of them. Try to be careful about some of the Etsy advice, since some Etsy categories have so much competition that the advice might be different by category.

We have been Etsy for about a year now and have participated in three of four Showcases. Only a couple sales total. I have read mixed reviews on these as well. We have decided to no longer participate in showcases. If I remember correctly, Etsy does not offer Showcases anymore.

I've been selling on Etsy for 14 months and I really love it. I've found that the best way to get buyers is to make your shop look really great (take nice pictures and have a good profile to start with), have a fun and unique product that people can't buy anywhere else (even if it is just a twist on something they COULD buy somewhere else), and then get people to come and look at your shop (which is what you are doing by being here, but you can also get people looking in lots of other ways too). They can't buy if they don't know your shop exists. They won't stay if they don't like what they see immediately. If you keep those 2 things in mind you'll do very well.

Best wishes on Etsy and I hope you do very well!

P.s. The showcases are not worth the money. Spend your advertising bucks elsewhere.

I agree with 100% about Etsy. We have been selling on Etsy for about 11 months now and just love the ease of use.

We believe that ensuring your profile and store policies are completed will provide the buyer with a sense that you care as a shop owner.

I do agree that marketing outside Etsy is a must. There are many different venues to gain exposure for your shop. I probably spend about an hour a day advertising our store outside of Etsy.

We have found that the Showcases and Ads do not produce the traffic we were looking for. I agree that these two avenues are worth the money.

If you would like please stop by our Shop:

Thank you

Etsy sites have to be properly optimized for the search engines - no different than any other site.

Do the proper on page SEO and you will get the right traffic conversion that comes from the search engines, since that is where 95% of all your customers come from.

There are lots of free tools you can use to promote your site, blogs, having other people linking to your site, twitter, facebook, ask500people, these are all really good indirect ways to push people to your site. Doing these things often is key and can be measured in google analytics.

That is a great point, I definatily want to do some home shows, I just haven't had the time. I do want to learn more about how to improve google seo, I have no clue about that. It seems I have a 13 hours a day job for no pay! lol We will get there though... i guess it just take A LOT of hard work! Keep it up everyone! :-)

I've been on Etsy for awhile and I have to agree the showcase is not worth it. You may get hearts and 1 or 2 sales but that's it. Spend you $$ on other way for people who have never heard of Etsy.

GOOD LUCK

Amen!! There's sooo many ways to promote without having to spend a ton of $$ - Blogs, groups, forums, LR, exchaning links, and I am sure the list goes on!

I'll be curious to see if Etsy's new front page design changes showcases. I know common wisdom has been that they're a waste of money and I personally have never done one, but now that they slap you in the face when you open up the Etsy home page (something a lot of people resent), it may make a difference with actual buying patterns. Hmm...

I have done a little networking - blogs, my pages, etc. also joined a few other sites such as Silkfair.com and Made it Myself. I figure the more place I join and subscribe to the better traffic I will get.

I don't use the showcase at all anymore!

I am in my 3rd week at etsy, made 5 sales and love it! The only thing I do is link referral, etsy forum and checking out my hearts. I got one sale and repeat order from contacting someone who hearted me to order some gifts from her. Etsy forum has gotten us more hearts as well. I haven't gotten hardly any hits on google base, but not surprising as I don't really know what I'm doing there.:)

I'm a few months into etsy, and I've showcased twice, and have two more coming up. The first one I did seemed to work well, the second.. not so much... but i'm still inclined to try few more times. I also blog, join other etsian's blogs, go to forums, and try to advertise outside of etsy as well. (all of this i've done in recent weeks- so i haven;t seen anything move yet.

best of wishes!

I used the show case when I first started. Did not notice any change - I agree spend the $7 to advertise outside of Etsy to bring people to your shop. I think the showcase is kind of lost with the featured pics, etc. on the front page.

The last poster reminded me about street teams - that is definitely worth looking into. I'm a member of my local street team and it is great because we get together for events and we also work together to promote each other. It is great!

I'm on Etsy and enjoying it, although not selling as much as I would like. Spending some time in the forums seems to help. Being part of one or more Etsy teams also seems to help because you all help market each other. I haven't found the showcase to be very helpful.
