You could have the greatest deals in the entire world, but if no one knows about them then your efforts are wasted. Do a search on google for Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
You will find tons of great information on how to create a website that is both user friendly and search engine friendly.There are also countless numbers of companies and freelancers out there who offer SEO services.
Just be cautious of their offers and do your research first. Remember, NO ONE can guarantee top placement in major search engines, no matter what they say.
The reason Am putting down about SEO is it going to be the most important part to your site so just not to do it right away is going to take you longer to get traffic.
You can have the best looking site or awesome sales but who will know if it not on the search engines.

As far as the hype about targeted traffic that is BS People can't tell you they can offer you targeted traffic because there is no such thing they can maybe offer you traffic but is not going to mean you going to make a sale,So if you start listing to the hype about targeted traffic and get in to one of those site your going to be set up for a big disappointment of the results.
Now there is a such thing as targeted keywords which that goes with learning SEO so if you do not know it start to learn because your going to need it.
If you are looking for free ways there is a lot of free ways to advertise but you have to be willing to do the work at them to produce the results you want.If you think your going to come online and not have to work to get what ever you are promoting seen than you might as well not be in any kind of business online in the first place.
Some of the ways you could advertise for free are.
1.Social Networks-If your on myspace,facebook,hi5and so on there a a lot of networks out there.
Put your link to your site on your profile and you can also write a blog about it as well on what ever networks you are in just don't write it as a ad write it more like about you and what you do kinda of thing.
You also just do not start promoting to people on a social network you have to build relations with the people you want to see your site which means get a lot of friends build relations with your friend list.
This is also not only meeting some new people but your building a trust factor with that person.
People are more willing to check out what you got to offer if they have been talking to you for a while than just to advertise to them.
So With Social Networks you want to promote your self and not what you are in.If you do this you will start to get people interested in you and what you do.

6.Safe list-Safe list do work and can bring you a good amount of traffic but you have to be able to write a good email ad to get people to want to check it out.
Safe list are where you get to send other members of that site but they also get to send you one in return as well so you may want to get another email address for this but can be worth it because there a lot of them out there and they do work.
7.Blog-You could make a blog and link it back to your site.If you do this the best place to make a blog is from word press but there are more places.If you got a little doe to boot you should check out wordpress direct they write your content for your niche on your blog and was tested and proven to work.
8.Social Bookmarking-there is a lot of these places out there like diggs,stumble upon.furl,riddect and so on you can join and book mark your site with them not only does that give you a better rank in the search engines it also can bring you traffic from the social bookmarking sites them selves.
9.Squdioo-make a lens at squidoo they are a popular place and can drive you traffic from not only squidoo but also the search engines.
You can do like a lot of people are doing on LR and put your lens on here get the traffic from LR to give you a better rank on squidoo than you can easily double your traffic on two places instead of one.
10.Business cards-There are sites that will give you so many business cards for free that you can use to promote your business off line to get people to come to your site.
11.flyers-make up some flyers post them around in stores and so on it can have the same effect as the business cards for you.
12.Track your ads-This is important to do online and there are ad tracking websites or software you can get for your site so you know where the traffic is coming from.
Not only does this save you a ton of time but it also will tell you what ads are working and what is not so you know which ads you might want to improve by doing split testing also know as A and B testing to improve your ads and the traffic that comes from them.
13.Forum websites-Forum websites can be a great way to get you more traffic some you can place your ads right away on and some you can have you just use your signature to put your link to what website you have and the more post you have the more links you out there.

There are free auto responder but most of them have there own ads in them so you might want to pay for one like aweber,get response,email aces and so on.
These are some free ways to get traffic but you got to be willing to do the work I could go on and on about ways to get traffic.
If your got money to put for your advertising check out google adwords or find high traffic website such as social networks like myspace,yuwie,facebook and so on and see how much it cost to advertise on there network or look for other high traffic or good traffic sites and see how much it is there as well.
I will tell you this I said it once but I will say it again no one can tell you that they can give you targeted traffic that is just BS most places have ways or a system to get traffic but still paying for it or not does not guarantee that you are going to get a ton of sales.The concept is to get as much traffic as you can to make the sales or the sign ups you want and either way takes work to do.
Here some ideas for you.Use them if you want but you have a website your main focus should be to do everything to get that site notice and build traffic to your site.
I just don't understand why you would not want to do the SEO stuff first for your website and work on getting traffic after your done.That the first thing you should do after making a website because that is where a lot of traffic comes from.
